Wihlborgs Fastigheter AB and Choice Hotels Scandinavia have signed a 15-year lease agreement which means that Wihlborgs will be carrying out the rebuilding and extension of the present Comfort Hotel Malmö. The hotel has a very good location at Slagthuset on Carlsgatan 10, right next to Malmö’s central station and Citytunneln.
Construction will start in the summer of 2009 and it is expected that the official opening of the hotel will take place in December 2010 at the same time as Citytunneln will be opened. Comfort Hotel Malmö will then have 307 hotel rooms, 6 conference rooms and restaurant. This will make it Malmö’s biggest hotel. The present hotel will remain in operation during the rebuilding and extension.
The hotel is located in an exciting part of Malmö that is currently undergoing major change. Malmö’s central station is currently being expanded in connection with the Citytunnel project and a new urban centre, Nyhamnen, is also planned for this location.
“Wihlborgs has enjoyed collaboration with Choice for a long time and we are happy to see that they are continuing to expand in Malmö,” says Anders Jarl, CEO of Wihlborgs Fastigheter. The location can be considered one of Malmö’s best with Citytunneln, a number of multi-storage car parks and Malmö’s inner city within a stone’s throw.
“The agreement gives us the opportunity to build what will become Europe’s largest Comfort Hotel right in the centre of Malmö”, says Thomas Westergaard, CEO of Comfort Hotels Scandinavia. “It will become a fresh, modern and beautiful hotel for business and private travellers located in the most exciting part of Malmö”.
Comfort Hotels are urbane, efficient and smart hotels built for modern travellers who want to live centrally in exciting environments.
